Interior Office Design For Your Home Office

Are you a freelancer, do you telecommute or do you have a home office where you spend a lot of your time? If so, then your home office should not be left to chance. Your interior office design in your home should reflect the design and comfort that is evident in other parts of your house or your office downtown. There are a number of things that you can do to ensure that your home office lives up to this and becomes your favorite hanging spots.

The first thing to consider for your home interior office design is the location. You know what they say about real estates – location, location, location. This however is also true of your home office. If you plan to be spending a lot of time in your home office, like me, then you need to make it as comfy as possible. Squishing a tiny desk into your windowless closet is not the way to go. You need to spend time and create space for your home office, even if it means sacrificing some things. Never sacrifice form for function only to end up with a soulless cubicle where you long to get away from. Ensure that your home office is located near a window or where you will have a nice view of your surroundings.

Interior designers also recommend having as much natural light as possible. In addition, interior office design is all about comfort. So go for traditional décor or warm wood if the space allows or add some artistic pieces which may be modern furniture or some other objects that make you feel right at home – after all, you are home.

Home interior office design can also be enhanced by choosing comfy accessories rather than going for the normal office accessories. Unless you are really into contemporary looks, make your home office as homely as possible. Have a pretty mug for a pencil holder or a waste basket in place of a shredder. Bookshelves can be hidden using curtains and inspirational prints can be stuck on the walls near framed artworks or a classic painting. Another interior office design tip that can apply to a home office is organizing both vertically and horizontally. Since the office space will likely not be laid out in square footage, use space efficiently by having floating shelves and vertical file folders to organize your files and documents.

How about all the wires and cables from your phone and computer? You can encase cords using a pretty fabric or use a plastic cap to guide cords through a hole in the desk. Use cord winders or tubing to attach the cords to the desk and lift them off the floor. Interior office design for your home office is an interesting undertaking. However it even gets more interesting once you start using your well designed office while enjoying its comforts.
