European Interior Design For The Amateur
Just as with some other aspects of society, interior design has evolved over centuries and while some insist in only using the modern concepts, it is not strange to find another group of people using age old designs or design from other parts of the world. One such design is the European interior design concept. There are different types of designs associated with this style and one of them is the Baroque design that mainly entails romantic and luxurious patterns. To others this style often comes out as theatrical. The Baroque style makes use of colors such as gold as well as other tones that are found between the brown and yellow spectrum. These colors were mainly associated with wealth and could be found on the floor, walls furniture as well as on accessories such as lighting and draperies.
As pertaining furniture, this European interior design concept dwelt on the use of the opulent furniture. The main characteristics of the buffets, beds, bookcases, cabinets and other kinds of furniture were that they were made using heavy wood and hand intricate ornaments. On these items one could also find mother-of –pearls, ivory and silver. For more luxury, there was also the use of exotic woods like ebony which were used as either secondary or the main material. Baroque styled floors entailed tow materials and on the ground were to be found bricks and flagstones which were combined to specifically create deep and intricate geometrical patterns. For the wealthier home owners, marble was a better material to use as compared to flagstones and bricks. On the other levels of the floor it was common to find wood such as oak, fir and pine and just as with the tones, the different woods were used to create different patterns.
Another kind of European interior design was the one carried out by Verner Panton who is a celebrated Danish designer. This designer’s work is both futuristic and modern. It entails using the present technology as well as vivid colors. The well known’ form-moulded chair’ chair was his first creation and mainly entailed construction from plastic as well as using joints. The Kelly Hoppen designs are also quite impressive and they entail the use of shades and colors that are naturally inspired to bring out a simplistic, luxurious and timeless ambience.
European interior design has distinct characteristics that make its stand out from other kinds of interior designs. For instance, most people living in Northern Europe prefer using curtains fro their windows instead of using blinds. This is because curtains help in insulation however in the case of thick wooden windows; shutters can be used as well. Northern Europeans also use much wall paper on their walls as it greatly helps in insulation unlike other people who prefer plain walls or the use of tiles. Finally, the furniture found in most European homes is mostly big as many people spend time indoors.
